CalSERVES Family Programs provide the whole family with resources and educational opportunities. The program makes practical classes available to parents, along with supportive care for their children. Entirely free, the program offers effective ESL, GED (General Education Development), and literacy classes for parents. In addition, parenting classes are offered on such topics as supporting children in school, positive communication, discipline, and self-esteem. While parents are attending classes, their children receive homework assistance and participate in engaging, structured activities that make learning fun and enable the entire family to attend the evening session. CalSERVES Family Programs also includes a family literacy program designed to place books in the hands of children and foster a love of reading within every family. Through the classes and on-going support, these family programs connect parents to their school community in new and vital ways.
